Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was a speaker, investor, and businesswoman from the United America. She co-founded The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage located in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001 and shortly thereafter , the company was sold. Corcoran, one of ABC's initial Shark investors, has been a part of each episode of Shark Tank. In February of 2020, she has made 53 deals for the show, the largest being a $350,000 investment in 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, the youngest of 10 children from a working class Irish Catholic family. [8] Her mother, Florence, was a homemaker. Her father, Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. moved from job to job during Corcoran's childhood. Her family was sometimes dependent on the food provided by the local grocer who would deliver free food. Corcoran remembers her fatheras one who would drink too much and behaved towards her mother in a manner that was disrespectful and condescendingly, especially after he'd had some drinks. Corcoran struggled with her education and was eventually diagnosed with dyslexia. Corcoran attended the local Catholic elementary school before beginning the high school system at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. Corcoran completed her studies at Leonia High School with a diploma in English, despite failing several courses during her first year of high school.
