Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20 1964. She is an American politician. She is the first vice president to be female and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and was she was a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. She was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated healthcare reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
